Scroll Fence
Phoenix, AZ
2007
As part of the Metro Light Rail project in Phoenix, I was selected to create artwork for the Central/Van Buren station in downtown Phoenix. The station is both a bus and light rail station, filling an entire city block, and I made decorative panels for 320 feet of railings located all over the site.
Hand forged from stainless steel, these scrolls refer to the cowboy deco style which many of the buildings in the downtown area are designed in. Tactile and textured, the scrolls are reminiscent of ropes and petroglyphs, but in modern materials that are echoed in the buildings of the surrounding neighborhood.
